Another CosRX product! This brand receives so much hype, but I haven’t tried many of their products. Feels as if they market themselves as simple skincare – and are known for making products that target specific skin concerns such as acne, black
heads, white heads etc. However, this product – their Oil-Free Ultra-Moisturizing Lotion (with Birch Sap), caught my eye. Main reason being that it’s oil-free and these kinds of products usually work quite well with my skin. $24 from Chuusi | $29.93 from Amazon.ca Highly likely! It’s a great moisturizer, but the price has gone up quite a bit. I’m not sure if I’m willing to purchase it at $30 (from Amazon), but I would pay $24 (from Chuusi) for it!Disclaimer: I am not a beauty guru nor expert, and all sorts that fall under that category. This product was purchased with my own money and I am not being paid to write this. My review, photos, impressions and thoughts are all my own,
unless stated otherwise. While this product may or may not have worked for my skin, it may or may not work for yours – remember, your mileage may vary (YMMV)! Claims/Description
To help hydrate and improve skin tone and texture. Works well for oily, dry and sensitive skin.
Packaging
Very CosRX-like. The packaging is simple and is your typical pump bottle moisturizer.
Ingredients
Betula Platyphylla Japonica Juice, Butylene Glycol, Glycerin, Dimethicone, Betaine, Cetearyl Alcohol, 1, 2-Hexanediol, Cetearyl Olivate, Sorbitan Olivate, Hydroxyethyl Acrylate/Sodium Acryloyldimethyl Taurate Copolymer, Sodium Lactate, Ethylhexylglycerin, Sodium Hyaluronate, Allantoin, Panthenol, Xanthan Gum, Ethyl Hexanediol, Citrus Medica Limonum (Lemon) Peel Oil, Melaleuca Alternifolia (Tea Tree) Leaf Oil
List from chuusi.ca
Here is a CosDNA analysis on the product.
Texture
What I like most about this moisturizer is the gel texture (which is usually what I would expect from something that is oil-free). But what makes this moisturizer different compared to say, the Kiehl’s Oil-Free Moisuturizer, is that it’s not watery. It’s gel-based but it has some thickness to it.
It’s kind of creamy, but not really when you spread it out.
Application
Judging by how it looks, I expected the moisturizer to feel slightly heavier than the typical gel moisturizers. It feels slightly heavy upon application (if you have combination oily/dry skin – you’ll notice it) – it’s just a tad bit heavy. However, the heaviness didn’t last long and I noticed how fast the moisturizer set and was absorbed by my skin. The finish was light, and didn’t make my face feel like an oily mess throughout the day.
Effectiveness
The moisturizer did it’s job and kept my skin moisturized even through unstable weather (hot, cold, humid etc.). It’s not as effective overnight throughout the winter for me, when the weather is a lot drier and colder, but it does it’s job as a day-time moisturizer. That’s why during the winter, when I used this moisturizer at night, I felt the need to add an additional layer of a sleeping mask or something heavier so my skin doesn’t get dry throughout the night. I found that it works quite well as a day and night-time moisturizer throughout the summer.
Another reason why I liked the oil-free moisturizer is its finish when it sits – my skin felt smooth and soft. It helped a bit with some of my breakouts as well – but didn’t really benefit in that area that much. All it did was help make my acne feel less irritated (everything else was hormones, diet, sleep).
In Summary
This moisturizer doesn’t look very special, has plain packaging and all but it does it’s job pretty well as a moisturizer. If I didn’t have so many products to try out I would purchase this one again. A couple of people that I know have also tried this moisturizer and said that they like how light and moisturizing it is! This oil-free moisturizer seems to work well with my combination oily-dry skin. If none of the ingredients on their list will cause a breakout or reaction for your skin or if you’re in the market for a new moisturizer, I would definitely give this one a try.
