Genesis took off the covers to the latest-generation G90 in December last year and a Korean YouTuber recently had the opportunity to check it out in long-wheelbase guise.
The Genesis G90 is already quite a large sedan but compared to the standard model, this long-wheelbase variant is 190 mm (7.5-inches) longer and that results in dramatically more legroom in the back seat. For Genesis owners who plan on spending a lot of time getting chauffeured around, the long-wheelbase version is absolutely the one to go for.

All in all, the interior of the new G90 is dramatically more modern and luxurious than its predecessor. For example, it sports a new 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, a 12.3-inch infotainment display, and an overhauled two-spoke steering wheel. It also features an additional screen with capacitive buttons to control the climate settings. A gear selector similar to the ‘Crystal Sphere’ of the electric GV60 also catches the eye.
Occupants sitting in the rear also have access to loads of luxuries which are especially beneficial in the long-wheelbase version. For example, the passenger-side rear seat can completely recline and has a pop-up footrest. There are also displays mounted to the rear of both the front seats as well as an 8-inch touch screen in the rear center armrest that allows things like the seats, climate control, curtain position, and lighting to be adjusted.
From a performance standpoint, Genesis has equipped the new G90 with a 3.5-liter V6 coupled to an eight-speed automatic transmission. This engine is good for 375 hp and 391 lb-ft (530 Nm) of torque in Korean specification and should offer similar outputs when the car arrives in the U.S.
A Real Flagship. Genesis may not have the same brand recognition as Mercedes-Benz, BMW, Audi, Volvo, or Lexus, but the South Korean brand has come out with a fully redesigned 2023 G90 that makes brand recognition something that’s easy to overlook. With the sharper-looking, more tech forward, and electrified G90, Genesis has created a large sedan that’s a proper flagship model. The G90 is ready as ever to take the fight to more established models.
Don’t Worry About Options. Genesis gained fame because of its value-packed vehicles. While the large sedan segment isn’t known for offering a lot of value, the 2023 G90 comes with every feature you could possibly want as standard equipment. Nappa leather upholstery, two 12.3-inch displays, wood trim, massaging front seats, fingerprint authentication, adaptive cruise control, and a Bang & Olufsen audio system are standard.
Move up to the range-topping 3.5T E-Supercharger AWD model and you’ll get four-wheel steering, power-closing rear doors, 21-inch wheels, a 26-speaker Bang & Olufsen audio system, and power-reclining rear seats with a massaging feature. With this kind of roster of features, you don’t have to worry about scouring through a bunch of options. Genesis doesn’t offer any optional features anyways.
If there’s one thing the G90 is missing it’s wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. You’ll still have to connect your smartphone with a cord, which seems like a miss for such a tech-forward segment.
First-Rate Cabin. The G90’s body style limits seating capacity to four people if you want everyone to be comfortable, but four people will find the G90’s interior to be exquisite. The sedan features first-class materials, excellent build quality, as well as spectacular fit and finish. Remove the Genesis badges from the vehicle and you can fool people into thinking they're taking a ride in a much more expensive vehicle.
Measuring 207.7 inches long, the G90 offers plenty of space for everyone. In the back, the G90 has roughly 38 inches of headroom and nearly 38 inches of rear legroom. This is as much as some midsize SUVs and makes the G90 downright spacious for four people.

Effortless Ride and Performance. Unlike some large sedans in the segment, the G90 isn’t available in a high-performance model with over 500 horsepower and a zero-to-60 mph time of 4 seconds. The G90 is an old-school luxury sedan that puts comfort before performance.
The standard G90 comes with a twin-turbocharged 3.5-liter V6 engine that produces 375 hp and 391 lb-ft of torque. The V6 makes more power than the V6 in last year’s model and returns better fuel economy, too. We only have good things to say about the standard V6, which delivers plenty of grunt for daily tasks in an incredibly smooth manner.
Genesis offers the entry-level G90 with electronically controlled suspension with a camera that can study the road ahead to prepare for bumps. The ride is incredibly comfortable and should be good enough for most people.
The range-topping G90 steps things up with an electric supercharger and a mild-hybrid system. Output is rated at 409 hp and 405 lb-ft of torque. The more powerful V6 engine delivers more effortless acceleration off the line and smoother stop-start operation.
In addition to the more powerful engine, the G90 3.5T E-Supercharger AWD adds a multi-chamber air suspension system for a serene ride. Not much can unsettle the vehicle and the ride manages to be incredibly smooth without feeling floaty.
Unfortunately, neither suspension systems make the G90 feel athletic around corners. The large sedan struggles to hide its weight. Even the available rear-wheel-steering system can’t help the G90 feel sporty.
Dazzling, But Polarizing. Not many people will recognize the G90 when it’s rolling down the street, but they’ll definitely do a double-take to get a closer look at the car. In an attempt to stand out in the class, which has quite a few conservatively styled competitors, Genesis has penned a daring design.
The front end of the G90 features split headlights, a massive shield-shaped grille, and wide air intakes. Around the back, the G90 wears split taillights that wrap around the side of the body, a boxy rear end, and a tall roofline. It’s an odd look that’s not for everyone.
Final Thoughts. The fully redesigned 2023 Genesis G90 has seriously stepped up its luxury status. While last year’s model put the G90 on the map, the new G90 makes it a serious contender in an even more competitive segment. While the G90 doesn’t have the same brand appeal as some of its rivals, it hits all of the right notes for the large sedan class with a plush ride, a lavish interior, high-end features, and loads of interior space.

For something different, there’s the Volvo S90. It has a gorgeous design, fuel-efficient four-cylinder engines, lots of space, and an available plug-in hybrid powertrain.
