Honing in on 200 episodes, The Blacklist has been back on NBC for its ninth season with the new episodes dropping weekly from October 21st, 2021. With the show set to wrap up by the end of May, here’s when you can expect season 9 of The Blacklist to be available on Netflix.

James Spader continues to play Raymond Reddington, a former criminal turned FBI informant who has helped the authorities capture countless notable criminals over the years.

Netflix has carried the show in many regions (more on this below) since the show’s inception reportedly paying up to $2 million per episode.

Season 9 began airing on October 21st, 2021 but notably saw the departure of the creator of the series, Jon Bokenkamp this season.

The Blacklist season 9 will consist of 22 episodes with the season finale airing on May 27th and don’t worry, the future of the show is secure with a season 10 underway.

When season 9 of The Blacklist will be on Netflix will entirely depend on where you live, so let’s dive into each of the three groups. Those who get weekly episodes, those that receive the season all at once, and those who don’t receive it at all.

Some Netflix Regions Receive Weekly Episodes of The Blacklist

Some regions of Netflix are lucky enough to get weekly episodes of The Blacklist.

Netflix regions that get weekly episodes of The Blacklist and will continue to do so until late May 2022 include:

  • Netflix India
  • Israel
  • South Korea
  • Hungary
  • Poland
  • Russia
  • Portugal
  • Slovakia
  • Romania

The Blacklist Season 9 Netflix Release Schedule

For almost every other region, you’ll have to wait to get season 9 of The Blacklist.

For Netflix in the United States and Canada, you’ll have to wait until season 9 has concluded its run plus a few months thereafter. But we can give a pretty accurate estimate as to when that’ll be.

All of season 8 was added to Netflix in the US on October 6th, 2021 with the full season leaving the NBC app on October 22nd, 2021. All prior seasons before season 8 hit Netflix CA & US in September.

That means we’re currently expecting season 9 of The Blacklist to be on Netflix in September or October 2022.

A few other regions are still missing season 8 including some European countries and Latin America. You should get season 8 sometime in 2022 with season 9 then dropping in 2023.

Why The Blacklist isn’t on Netflix in the United Kingdom

Most of Netflix carries The Blacklist with a few notable exceptions. The biggest exception is Netflix UK which doesn’t have access to the show at all because the rights (both broadcast and streaming) were sold to Sky.

That’s all we have for now. We’ll keep you posted on exactly when season 9 of The Blacklist will be coming to Netflix and any notable developments regarding the future of the show as and when we get it.

Weekly updates from What's on Netflix

NBC is staying in “The Blacklist” business. The network has renewed its flagship espionage series for a tenth season.

Series star James Spader revealed news of the renewal during his appearance on “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” on Tuesday evening. Other guests for the evening’s broadcast included Olympic athlete Nathan Chen, standup comedian Eric Neumann and Dr. Bernice A. King.

“The Blacklist” is currently in the middle of broadcasting its ninth season. The season premiered in October and new episodes air at 8 p.m. on Fridays. The long-running series has continued to draw large numbers, reaching 22 million viewers across liner and digital platforms and growing over 200% from its live + same day average.

Spader has starred in “The Blacklist” since the series first premiered in 2013. The “Sex, Lies, and Videotape” actor plays FBI fugitive and super criminal Raymond “Red” Reddington, who helps the bureau track down the most notorious criminals across the globe.

Diego Klattenhoff, Amir Arison, Hisham Tawfiq, Laura Sohn and Harry Lennix star alongside Spader. The current season picks up two years after the exit of FBI profiler Elizabeth Keen (Megan Boone, who left the show after Season 8), with characters facing a crossroads regarding their future within the FBI Task Force.

“The Blacklist” comes from Davis Entertainment in association with Sony Pictures Television Studios and Universal Television, a division of Universal Studio Group. Spader serves as executive producer alongside Lukas Reiter, Laura A. Benson, Daniel Cerone, Sean Hennen, Allison Glock-Cooper, T Cooper, John Eisendrath and Jon Bokenkamp. John Davis and John Fox also executive produce for Davis Entertainment.

Fans of The Blacklist may not have to worry about the future of the NBC crime thriller, as it was renewed for a 10th season back in February. However, after seeing the series' Season 9 move from Fridays to Thursdays, then back to Fridays again, fans may continue struggling to keep up with when the James Spader-led drama is airing. Now, NBC has announced its fall schedule plans, and The Blacklist is not even scheduled to return this September. Rather, Season 10 will see its premiere arrive in the midseason.

The Blacklist recently answered a huge question in who killed Liz Keen and why. Two episodes remain for the ninth season, however, and the longtime NBC series is known to go big for its finales and their big reveals. Sure, it’s good to know that whatever cliffhangers audiences are left with after the Season 9 finale on May 27 will presumably be resolved in Season 10, but it’s a bummer that fans won’t get those answers until early 2023.

Red Reddington and the Task Force have proven to have maintained some loyal fans, who not only carried the series through multiple seasons in its traditionally dreaded Friday primetime slot, but also stuck with it through its various other changes in recent years. On top of that, fans also weathered the exit of Megan Boone and creator and showrunner Jon Bokenkamp after eight seasons, to the point where the show exceeded expectations by lasting beyond its Liz-free ninth season.

At this point, The Blacklist fanbase would probably be suspicious if NBC aired two seasons in a row that didn't feature a major scheduling shake-up. To be sure, while The Blacklist's ratings stats have bounced around over the years, the drama has earned annual boosts from delayed viewership to help with its everchanging airtimes, so everyone at least knows where to find the show after the fact.

Along with The Blacklist, NBC announced a couple of other returning series whose returns will also be held until the new year: the sitcoms American Auto and Grand Crew, both of which were just recently renewed for second seasons. As well, that's when we'll get our eyeballs on the network revival of Night Court.

American Auto — the latest series from Superstore creator Justin Spitzer — had been expected to receive a renewal. Starring Ana Gasteyer, Harriet Dyer and Jon Barinholtz, the sitcom focuses on the employees of Detroit-based Payne Motors who are struggling with a new CEO amidst a rapidly changing industry.

Grand Crew’s future was less certain, as TVLine reports the first 10-episode season averaged shy of 2 million total weekly viewers, along with a 0.4 demo rating (including Live + 7 playback). The series stars Echo Kellum, Justin Cunningham, Grasie Mercedes, Carl Tart, Aaron Jennings and Nicole Byer as a group of Black friends who unpack the ups and downs of life and love at a wine bar.

Finally, Night Court, a sequel to the beloved sitcom from the 1980s and ‘90s, will also debut midseason. The series stars and is executive produced by Melissa Rauch, with John Larroquette reprising his role as District Attorney Dan Fielding from the original series.

Fans of The Blacklist have proven their patience with the series before, and that will be tested again. However, at least there are still two episodes remaining before the long hiatus. The Blacklist returns for its penultimate Season 9 episode at 8 p.m. ET Friday, May 20, on NBC, ahead of its May 27 finale.
