From Friday, July 15, 2022, we will be calling for charity runners to support the activities of CARE International Japan, which is committed to gender equality and aims for a world without poverty.

“The Tokyo Marathon 2023 Charity” is an initiative to deepen the social understanding of donations in Japan and to expand the circle of support for charity through the Tokyo Marathon.

After registration, you will be screened and decided to run as a charity runner for the Foundation by donating a certain amount of money. For details, please see below.

Application Procedure & Schedule

Donation & Charity Runner Application	July 15, 10:00 a.m. - July 24, 11:59 p.m. (JST) Donation and Charity Runner application for the Tokyo Marathon 2023 Charity, which was originally scheduled to start from July 11, is now scheduled to open on Friday, July 15, 10:00 a.m. (JST) for those residing outside of Japan. *Please note that the Charity Runner application is not first-come, first-served. How to register	Please select “CARE International Japan” as the donation recipient on the official website “RUN with HEART“ and fill in the required information. 《You can only register after July 15th 10 a.m. (JST)》
Conditions for registration	・We will decide the runners in order from the one with the largest donation amount in the registration form. ・If there are multiple applicants for the same amount, the decision will be based on the information provided in the “Message for Charity” section.
Number of applicants	75 people

※This is not a first-come, first-served basis, so please apply well in advance of the registration period.

Settlement of donations

Notification date

July 25 - July 27

The Tokyo Marathon Charity Secretariat will send an e-mail notification to those who have been decided.
※Additional Charity Runners may be selected to fill available entry places.

Donation period

July 25 - August 5, 11:59 p.m. (JST)

Please make your payment by the way described in the above-mentioned e-mail for the registration.

※Please note that your registration will be canceled if you miss the payment deadline.

※Under no circumstances will donations be refunded. Please understand this before applying.

Registration as a charity runner

Entry period

August 8, 11:00 a.m. – August 19, 5:00 p.m. (JST)

Once the donation payment has been confirmed, you will receive an e-mail from Tokyo Marathon Charity Office with entry information.

Please register using the entry form provided in the e-mail.

Donation amount

100,000 yen or more per person

Participation Fee

In addition to the above donation, separate payment of the Tokyo Marathon 2023 entry fee is required.

A Life Changed by Marathon

Eight years ago, at the age of 66, I ran my first full marathon and became addicted. Since then, I have run a full marathon about twice a year and a 30-kilometer marathon or half marathon every month.

Thanks to this, I don't feel any decline in my physical strength at all, and I have more running buddies, regardless of age and sex. When I think back to my high school days when I had to take a leave of absence due to illness, I am thankful that I am healthy enough to run a full marathon at the age of 74.

Running a marathon is fun in itself, but I am even more motivated to run when I think it benefits someone else. There are times when I have a hard time running, but when I do, I think about the women and children of refugees and developing countries who have been living in more difficult conditions for a long time, and it inspires me to do more.

Can you qualify for Tokyo Marathon?

Applicants must achieve the qualifying times in events that are either World Athletics Label, World Athletics Elite Label, or World Ahtletics Elite Platinum Label, within a time frame specified by us. *The record can be either gun time or net time. *Must submit an official finisher's certificate.

Is it hard to get into Tokyo Marathon?

Either that or you love banging your head against the wall, because Tokyo (along with London) is the most difficult marathon in the world to get into; last year alone, the race received 330,271 applications for fewer than 37,500 slots.
