  • Ethics: 3 CE hours
    No more than 3 hours of Ethics can be completed in a renewal period.

Are there any course approval restrictions for Maryland Insurance CE?

  • Licensees must take approved courses in the line of authority in which they are licensed in.
  • For multiline Life/Health and Property/Casualty, licensees must complete 6 hours in each line. The remaining hours may be satisfied by either line.
  • Courses approved for Flood credit will not satisfy the minimum 6 hours required for the Property/Casualty line of authority.
  • Public Adjusters may complete courses approved under the Property & Casualty category

Courses cannot be repeated more than once in a 2 year license term. If a course is repeated in two consecutive 2-year license terms, there must be at least 6 months between the course completions to receive credit.

Frequency: One-time training of a 4-Hour Annuity Suitability and Best Interest Standards course must be complete prior to selling annuity products.

Effective October 8th, 2022, licensees who sell annuity products will need to complete an annuity course covering the NAIC Best Interest Standards.

  • Licensees who have already completed a 4-hour annuity course prior to 10/8/2022 may complete a 1-hour annuity best interest course or complete the new 4-hour annuity best interest course. Licensees will only have until 4/8/2023 to be able to take the 1-hour course.
  • Licensees who have not completed an annuity course must take the 4-hour annuity best interests course prior to selling annuities.

Residents and non-residents who have completed training including the NAIC Best Interest Standards in another state with laws similar to Maryland law will be deemed compliant with this requirement.
