Iain May's photo of the Porsche Cayman GTS. Status: Lost Series 22: Episode 10 is an unfinished series finale for the BBC motoring show Top Gear. Starring Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond, and James May, a number of segments were planned and filmed for the episode. However, the episode was completely scrapped following the dismissal of Clarkson from the BBC following a fracas with a producer. Background[edit | edit source]On 4th March, 2015, filming for a segment of the episode had commenced.[1] The segment featured the three presenters driving sports cars in Hawes, North Yorkshire. It was confirmed that the Porsche Cayman GTS and a Rolls Royce Wraith were two of the sports cars, thanks to a family who had taken photos of the vehicles.[2] This was double confirmed when Top Gear cameraman Iain May also posted a picture of the Porsche Cayman GTS on top of a hill in the English countryside on Twitter on 5th March.[3] The Top Gear Wiki claims that James May would later confirm the third car was the Ford Fiesta ST.[4] Post-filming, a fracas occurred between Clarkson and producer Oisin Tymon. According to reports, filming had been a long process, with Clarkson expecting a hot meal following filming wrapping up. Prior to the end of filming, he requested Tymon go to the Simonstone Hall Hotel and order an 8oz sirloin steak. Upon Clarkson arriving to the Hotel at 10pm, he was informed by Tymon that the kitchen was closed, and that the only food available was cold platter.[5] This reportedly enraged Clarkson, and the two ended up in a fracas lasting thirty seconds where the presenter called Tymon a "lazy, Irish cunt" before hitting the producer, Tymon receiving a bloody lip in the process.[6] Clarkson also threatened to have Tymon be sacked from his role.[7] Tymon was admitted to hospital and was treated for a cut lip.[8] Following the incident, the BBC announced on 10th March that it had suspended Clarkson, with Top Gear going into hiatus.[9] On 25th March, 2015, BBC's director-general Tony Hall announced that the organisation would not renew Clarkson's contract, effectively ending the second incarnation of the show.[10] Top Gear was also placed in hiatus during this time period. In April, it was also announced that Hammond, May, and executive producer Andy Wilman had also elected to leave the show, stating they would not work on Top Gear without Clarkson.[11] The four would work to form The Grand Tour, which began airing on Amazon Prime in late-2016.[12] On 28th June, the final Top Gear episode featuring the trio was aired, containing two fully completed films.[13] Additional Segments[edit | edit source]As noted by Auto Evolution, Series 22: Episode 10 was due to be broadcast on 29th March, 2015. Unlike Episodes 8 and 9, which were also unfinished prior to the suspension of the show, no episode synopsis was ever released. Hence, details on what segments the episode would have contained are limited. According to Auto Evolution, a showdown between the Ferrari LaFerrari, McLaren P1, and Porsche 918 Spyder was due to commence, having been hyped in the past few series.[14] Additionally, May would be testing the new Porsche 911 Turbo S on the Top Gear test track.[15] Finally, Wickman confirmed that Keanu Reeves would have been the Star in a Reasonably-Priced car.[16] Availability[edit | edit source]Because none of the known segments made it into the final broadcast, it can be assumed that none were fully filmed prior to the suspension of the show. The footage may still be present within the BBC's archives. However, because none of the presenters have been contracted to the organisation since, combined with the negative implications that filming ultimately presented, the likelihood of the footage being released remains low.
