2024 GT500

This story includes speculative renderings of a future Shelby GT 500 created by Hycade that are neither related to nor endorsed by Ford.

The next-gen Shelby GT500 might be a few years away, but muscle car fans have already started dreaming about the performance flagship of the Mustang range. Independent designer Hycade revealed his take on the future Shelby-badged Mustang, looking more aggressive than ever thanks to a series of redesigned body panels.

The digital-only concept takes inspiration from the racing variants of the new Mustang but the visual kit makes it look even meaner, giving it a wide and low stance.

The front end gets the largest possible bumper intakes, a two-part splitter, and of course a version-specific grille with the snake logo. The LED headlights remain stock, but the additional intakes on the wide fenders give them a slightly revised look similar to the previous-gen facelift. More importantly, the massive bonnet scoop shows that there is an extremely powerful engine underneath, in need of huge amounts of air.

The profile remains largely unaltered, setting aside the extended side sills and the large inlets behind the wheels fading out on the doors. The model is lowered and fitted with a new set of alloy wheels. At the back, the model is distinguished by the huge fixed rear wing, presumably made of carbon fiber. The rear bumper is also new with toned-up openings, excessively large quad tailpipes, and a diffuser.

2024 GT500

The current Shelby GT500 was introduced in 2014 featuring several unique body panels compared to lesser versions of the sixth-gen Mustang. We expect something similar to happen with the new model, although in a more subtle manner compared to Hycade’s extreme renderings. After all, the GT500 will remain a road-legal production model, something that comes with certain compromises in the design which needs to be both functional and livable.

According to the latest rumors, the Shelby GT500 could be introduced in 2025, which is two years after the debut of the new Mustang. Ford is keeping its cards closed at the moment, but we will keep you posted on news, scoop stories, and reports. Until then, have a look at Hycade’s concept which easily wins the title of the most aggressive-looking seventh-gen Mustang yet.

The Shelby badge has always been associated with some of the quickest muscle cars of all time. We’ve loved each and every one of them, but in the modern era, the GT500 really stands out. Sure, the handling of the GT350 is amazing, but nothing beats the power and utter lunacy of a supercharged 5.2-liter V8.

We have an all-new generation Mustang out this year, and it already has a mild performance version called the Dark Horse. Though the S650 is improved in many ways over its predecessor, you get the feeling that Ford just re-engineered what it already had. But that’s good news for the GT500 because there was never anything wrong with that car.

The car world needs another Shelby GT500, now more than ever. After 2023, there will be no more Hellcat as Dodge is transitioning to electric muscle cars. Meanwhile, the Germans are either downsizing heavily, like in the case of the C63 or asking for too much money. $140,000 for the BMW M4 CSL, what’s that all about?

Speaking of overpriced, the 5.2-liter Predator is still around, powering the hot new F-150 Raptor R. And you can bet your sweet dealer markup that Ford will make another Shelby with it, better in almost every way than its predecessor.

The 2024 Shelby GT500 by Hycade

Shelby models look different to regular Mustangs in many ways, from the badges to the shape of the bumpers. Ford is most likely developing the GT500 as we speak. However, this is not it; it’s an independent concept from rendering artist Hycade, who specializes in making crisp widebody vehicles.

But the Mustang is the one car where a body kit as extreme as this will be manufactured, by Clinched, Liberty Walk, or some other specialist company.

Hycade’s vision of the 2024 Shelby GT500 involves making the fenders blister out. The hood is a real attention-grabber, not only boasting a cowl with a scoop at the front but also vents. Below that, the bumper has much deeper intakes capped in black trim that’s reminiscent of the Dark Horse.

The artist also gave the GT500 a lowered stance with performance tires and lightweight forged wheels. I kind of resembles a Nissan GT-R from the side. Meanwhile, the rear end sports quad exhaust tips and a large trunk-bolted wing. Frankly, both are oversized for this type of car, but who are we to judge such excellent work?

Blue with white stripes seems like the natural color combo. For the record, the GT500 has already boasted three shades of blue during the last generation, Performance Blue, Kona Blue and Velocity Blue. Green and dark gray aren’t bad either.

Is Ford making a 2023 GT500?

There are a couple of catches, though: Ford will cut the 2023 model year short to make way for the seventh-gen 'Stang, and the Shelby GT500 will be discontinued for 2023. Ford spokesman Mike Levine confirmed the lineup changes to Motor Authority. The Mach 1 will be the range-topping Mustang model for 2023.

Will the Shelby GT500 be discontinued?

Odes to Internal Combustion. Ford has confirmed that 2022 will be the final model year for the Shelby GT500, powered by the Predator supercharged 5.2-liter V-8 with a monstrous 760 horsepower and 625 pound-feet of torque.

Will there be a S650 GT500?

However, sources familiar with the matter have told Ford Authority that the S650 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 will debut in 2025 as a 2026 model, which means it won't be absent from the lineup for too long.
