Exploring the Nature of Communication

What do you think of when you hear the word “Communication”?

A speaker delivering a speech before an audience is the first thing that probably comes to mind for

many in the class.

Communication is not just the mere transfer of messages from one person to another. It involves a

Speaker imparting ideas, concepts and data to a group of Listeners (the Audience).

Communication is about two people talking such as with a sibling, a parent, a teacher or a friend,

face-to-face in real life or even via the Internet. It is also a group of people talking with one another to solve

a problem, for example, discussing with classmates about how a report should be done. Even buying a

snack from a vendor outside the school campus is considered communication.

It is the process of exchanging information and ideas between

two persons or among individuals through a common system of

symbols, signs and behavior. Other words often used to describe the

communication process are expressing feelings, conversing, speaking,

corresponding, listening and exchanging beliefs.
